Hi there. ♥ First, I want to say thank you so much for the sweet and thoughtful messages you sent me about last week’s post. I loved all the support. I especially loved hearing the few messages that said the post came at a great time, either because someone had just had the same email from a potential new job or that they just related to the general sentiment of keep moving forward. I do this because I love writing, but I also do it to inspire you whenever I can and to ignite a conversation. So, thank you, I love you. ♥
It’s now 8:39pm on a Monday night and I’m sitting at my desk scrolling through a list of blog post ideas on my phone. I’m trying to find the best one, the most amazing one, the most radiant one. Then I see the actual perfect one: perfection doesn’t exist. I write random snippets like this on my phone when I think of a subject on which I could expand. I’m usually in the shower, walking through Target, at a stoplight, or taking walk in the fresh air. It’s when I’m doing nothing that I get ideas.
Every few minutes, I get up and walk around. I walk into the kitchen and take a bite of the chicken, potatoes and Brussels sprouts my dude bought for me at Fresh Market for lunch today. Yup it’s dinner now and yup there was a lot of it. I then sit back down, pick up my candle box and admire the high gloss gold on the package. I love gold.
I get up again and walk to my bathroom and file down one of my uneven fingernails. I run my hands through my hair and wonder if I have time to do a deep conditioning treatment in the morning. I go back to my computer and download the new Tone It Up 2019 Summer Series PDF so I can print it in color. It starts next week, after all.
I watch the new Big Little Lies Season 2 trailer.
In my head, I can hear my friend Fatima’s words from last week about how I shouldn’t obsess over the next post and that I should just do something. It doesn’t have to be perfect, she said. Well. Here I am. And it’s certainly not.
I look at some of the Notre-Dame Cathedral coverage on Vogue.com. I think that I should write a blog post about how you shouldn’t put off the vacations you want to take because you’re afraid it’s not the perfect time or you’re not with the perfect person or the weather isn’t perfect. I saw this Cathedral three years ago. It was not a perfect condition trip, but it was an amazing trip. Life changing. Beautiful. Fantastic. And my own version of perfection. Sometimes you just have to say screw it and do it. Go see the thing you want to see. You may never have another chance.
I think about how this blog is about absolutely nothing and that is fine. It’s letting me blather on and it’s giving you a two minute break from your life. And sometimes that’s all these posts are going to be. A lovely little distraction for everyone. And maybe do something today that you were afraid to do because it wouldn’t be perfect. Nobody actually cares. Just do it. Live your day. Love you and hope you have a good day. ♥
