freelance or bust

Happy Friday Eve! The point of this blog is to share snippets of life – mine through my posts and yours with your comments and reactions. It’s all a little online lovefest, if you will. I believe you can’t go far in life or in business alone. We are not islands. There is something new you can learn from every single person you encounter. While I’m certainly full of advice and a lot of words, I always welcome and encourage advice and words of wisdom at any time from readers. Like today, for example.

When I left my job of almost 9 years last November, I was completely burned out and shattered mentally. This was primarily from the job, but also from the other changes going on through the year (real estate transactions can make people actually go insane). I paired up with a powerful and successful small business owner with the plan in place to rebrand, boost marketing efforts and also learn the trade of her business.

Marketing is my specialty and her business is her specialty, of course. It was a risk for both of us, but one we were willing to take. The rebranding went well but, after some time, I came to realize the other part of the the job was not for me, though I fully envisioned that it was when I partnered with her. Not to mention that I have the utmost respect for her and seriously wish it could have worked out as planned. Sometimes you can only understand something by living it.

As of this week, I’ve transitioned to a part time / contractor status. I did not think it was fair to continue spending her time or mine training on something that I didn’t see a future with. I will continue to work on marketing and projects, but what will I do with the rest of my time? Oh and how will I eat (or brunch or buy beauty products) for that matter?

I can either go back to werk werk werk werk full time in an office. Or, why not just start a company? Sounds great, right? I know it’s a 7 day a week job but I need to give it a chance. I’m brainstorming on what exactly I’ll do, but I’m sure it will be glorious. Maybe I’m not cut out for it. But, oh, what if I am?

Thoughts, opinions, advice, recipes, or just a hello are all welcome right now. I hope you have a delicious day!

  1. I’ve been brain storming about this myself for some time, and in the mean time am trying to learn as much as I can about setting up a business. My best advice is to really think about the things that make you happy, write a list and also a list of the skills you have and things you would like to learn. Hopefully some ideas will come from that. Good luck xxxx
