gone girl

I know a book is good when I’m still thinking about the characters weeks after I finish it. It’s usually when I’m brushing my teeth at night. I’ll wish there were just a few more chapters to read when I get in bed. I always want to know what is next well after the story is over.

I started this book on Labor Day weekend and it took me about two months to read. I’m not necessarily a slow reader, but I usually read right before going to sleep and I usually stay up too late for my own good leaving myself only a few sweet conscious minutes at night once in bed. So I only get through a handful of pages every day before I pass out spooning with my Kindle.

The first third of the book started off awfully slow and I didn’t think it was going to take off. But, once it did, it was chilling and fast and smart and I didn’t want to put it down. I was shocked and nauseated and constantly surprised. There were nights I was even scared to pick it back up even though I was dying to know what was next. A couple weeks ago, I needed resolution so badly that I spent an entire Saturday on the couch power reading until the very end.

If you like thrillers, this is for you. I don’t want to reveal too much, but it will keep you on the edge of your seat and always surprise you. If you’ve read this, I would love to know what you think. A teaser of the book can be found here.

I was also ridiculously excited to find out this is being made into a movie releasing in October 2014. I was kind of jumping up and down in our condo. It’s also being directed by the amazing David Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club, The Game, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo U.S. version), no less. Chills down spine already.

Casting for Gone Girl movie is done and it’s already filming. Check out who they cast on IMDB. Though I would suggest waiting until after you read it if you can. Much more fun to figure out what the characters look like in your head.

Read this fantastic article on ELLE with author Gillian Flynn. Check out the question starting with “Speaking of ‘words to live by’ …” for some great advice.

On top of all of this, Reese Witherspoon is producing the movie with her company Pacific Standard.

Great team/cast on this movie + insanely delicious book = counting down the days until next October.

  1. I devoured this book the summer of 2012. I think I read it in 3 days. I couldn’t put it down. One of those books that I still think of. The characters are so complex and well thought out. You love to hate them. I agree the first part was slow but once the second part hits, it’s a page turner. If you liked this book you would like her other. I can’t wait until the movie comes out!
