Happy New Year! I love New Year’s Day. It’s a chance for a fresh start, a new outlook, and an opportunity to become the best version of yourself. It’s a time to reevaluate and set new goals to allow yourself to improve and grow throughout the year.
Imagine sitting exactly where you are one year from today. Then imagine you’ve accomplished a major goal you set out to achieve in 2013. Or maybe you’ve checked off a bucket list of 30 goals. It’s truly outstanding. You have become a new you, a better version of yourself in just one year. So, what is it that you want to achieve in 2013?
I’ve had an amazing January 1st so far. I started the day at the gym and I surely can’t say the same for myself one year ago. For that, I am proud. I decided yesterday afternoon that I absolutely would not spend the first day of the year in post-NYE pain. Last night, I went light on the cocktails and heavy on the cheesy dance moves and it paid off. Today has been great.
While at the gym, these words popped into my head: I can. I will. I did. To want something is not enough. We all know we are capable of doing things. It’s the action that counts. It’s taking the next step that allows us to grow. I was tempted to enjoy another day off with my PJs and a movie marathon on this cold winter day, but I had already made up my mind to get moving and that was the end of it. Done deal.
I set the tone for a healthy New Year and there is no other way I would rather spend New Year’s Day.
I now challenge you to set the tone for the New Year. Or, if that seems overwhelming today, then start by setting the tone for the rest of the week. Do one thing you’ve been putting off, get organized, make healthy lunches for work, or call someone you love just to check in. Set the tone for the person you want to be in 2013. Set yourself up for success and see what you will accomplish.
